Iconography Classes
Fr. Jon teaches the art of Iconography in the traditional techniques at the Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Portland, OR. For class schedules and availability contact Trinity Iconography Institute.
Fall Class 2020/21 has 4 more sessions and there is NO Spring Class per se. It was decided to lengthen the original 12 classes to 16 in order to concentrate on the finishing the icon being written. This also allows for time to offer additional specialty classes. The Next Fall Class begins in October. It meets on 16 Monday nights at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 147 NW 19th Ave., Portland, OR 97209. Classes are from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm. Classes do not meet on public holidays and days when the cathedral is closed, such as snow days or religious feasts. Specialty classes will be offered during the Spring.
There are four summer sessions of 5 days each, Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm; Beginners. 2 consecutive Intermediate classes, and one Advanced.
The Beginners Class runs August 2-5, 2021 and will be working on an icon of the Mandylion (The Image Not Made By Hands.) It will be taught by Ania Kocurek-Williams.
The Consecutive Intermediate Sessions are from August 9-13, and August 16-20th. These Classes will be writing a Bust figure of the Theotokos adapted from an Annunciation by Gregory Gashev.
The Advanced Class runs August 23-27th. We will be writing the companion St. Gabriel from Gashev’s Annunciation.

The Fall Class will begin in mid to late October, dates to be determined soon. The classes go for 16 sessions in the evenings on Mondays. No classes are held in the weeks that the cathedral is closed for Public Holidays and the weeks of Christmas and New Years. Beginning students will start with the Mandylion. The Intermediate and Advanced classes will be writing icons of St. Luke, patron of Iconographers, according to their level of expertise.
Specialty classes are arranged as needed or desired: Gesso, Gilding, etc.
